Close Encounters Of The Third Kind

I'm a little ashamed of myself for not having watched this movie sooner. I know its far from new, in fact it is a classic. I am a huge fan of aliens, UFO's, and government cover-ups. This is like the grandfather of X-Files, which in my opinion is the best TV series. But that's not what I'm reviewing now is it. I thought this movie was great. Between showing the psychological stress that humans would go through when involved in such a situation and the effects of having been aboard an alien vessel for so many years. I like the way they use music as a common ground and basic form of communication. Though I feel that it would be more likely they would understand mathematical diagrams more so than sound. But that's just me. The movie clocks in at just over 2 hours which feels a little lengthy but its totally worth it. The design of the space crafts are astounding considering the time period the movie was made. It was a light hearted alien movie whereas most turn to horror stories once our race comes into contact with theirs, this one remained peaceful. Overall I would probably give this movie a 4.5 out of 5. I think it was a nearly perfect movie all things considered, but the story tends to make unnecessary jumps to topics not relevant to the story line. Cutting those would have strengthened the movie overall.
